D. & G. LIVESTOCK - MEDIA RELEASE COOLABUNIA – SOUTH BURNETT DROUGHTMASTERS TO $9,000 A very good quality yarding of 73 Droughtmaster bulls were offered at Coolabunia on Saturday 29th August, resulting in 66 sold to average $3,292, achieving a clearance of 90.5%. Top price of $9,000 for Lot 84, account the Heck Family’s Bryvonlea In-Focus going to two studs in partnership – the Hanson family of Willunga Stud, Morayfield and the Bloink family of Cooinda Stud, Obi Obi. Second top price of $8,500 was for Lot 76 Balmoral Ridge Maximus – snapped up by Barry Kelly’s Gemeast Pty. Ltd., Toogoolawah. Third top was the Baker family’s, Wundaburra Might and Power Lot 21 – which fetched $7,250 purchased by Colin Codd of Lockyer Pastoral Holdings, Esk. Top averages achieved were:
A large crowd witnessed the sale with 71 Bid Cards issued with bulls bound for Clermont, The Downs, Brisbane Valley, North Burnett, Cooloola and local areas. Of particular note was the fact that of the 92 bulls catalogued, only 73 were offered for sale on the day. This was due in part to the strict criteria in place at this multi-vendor sale, where there is a minimum motility rate of 60% required in the semen being tested from bulls, even though 30% is regarded as a pass by the ACV Bull Soundness Evaluation. This recent innovation gives buyers the added confidence in the selection of bulls being offered at this particular sale, and it is believed that this is the only multi-vendor sale (and possibly including all sales) of Droughtmasters in Australia to offer this unique advantage. The next D&G Livestock sale will be at Coolabunia on the 21st of November with a selection of quality vendor-bred Droughtmaster stud females, being the 6th Annual Cream of the Crop Sale. About 200 head are expected at this prestige sale which is to be officially opened by Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland Miss Penny Wensley.
