MEDIA RELEASE - "Cream of the Crop" and "Selected Bull" Sale 27/11/10 "CREAM OF THE CROP" DROUGHTIES TOP $7,500 at, COOLABUNIA STUD COMPLEX A large crowd witnessed the 7th Annual South Burnett ‘Cream of the Crop’ Stud Droughtmaster Female Sale on Saturday 27th November 2010. A total of 77 bid cards were issued, resulting in a good clearance of quality Droughtmaster genetics. Cows and calves were the highlight of the sale with the top of $7,500 being realised for Bob and Betty Baker’s “Wundaburra” Show female – ‘Mirabel’ with a magnificent bull calf at foot by ‘Might and Power’ and in calf again to ‘Octaginal’. This unit was snapped up by astute stud breeders, the Betts Family’s “Nindethana” Droughtmaster Stud, Camp Mountain. The 2nd top at $6,500 was another “Wundaburra” Show female – ‘Misty’ with heifer calf at foot by ‘Might and Power’ and again, in calf to Octaginal. She was eagerly purchased by the Kroll Family’s “Condamine” Stud, Chinchilla. 11 cows and calves averaged $3,941 40 PTIC females were sold to average $1,819 with a top of $4,000 being shared equally by the Weicks Family’s “Barwonga Farm” NSW, with ‘Barwonga Bettina,’ a Wingfield Boris female PTIC to ‘Southern Cross Captain Starlight,’ purchased by Greg, Hazel and Clayton Woods of “Hazelwood Droughtmaster Stud,” Obi Obi. The other $4,000 female was “Wundaburra” Show heifer ‘Oriele,’ a Juggernaut heifer PTIC to ‘Octaginal, ’ purchased by new breeder T. Schmidt, Caboolture. 43 unjoined females averaged $1,400 to a top of $2,300 for Jeff and Annette Rose’s “Amavale Amber” a ‘Strathfield Explode’ daughter – and purchased by phone for the Barr Family’s “Lilivale Stud” Samford.
At the conclusion of the stud females, a small line of working age bulls attracted reasonable competition with 19 averaging $2,655 to a top of $5,250 for Truvalle Van Gogh, a 26 months old ‘Huntly Circus” calf with an EMA of 123 and snapped up by Bruce Lawrie’s “Croxley Stud,” Crows Nest. Overall on the day
113 head gross $227,000 to average $2,008 / head. There was a 91%
clearance on females and 76% on bulls.
