MEDIA RELEASE 5th Summer Sale Droughtmaster Female Genetics – and “GRANGESIDE “ Droughtmaster Dispersal A very successful Stud and Commercial Droughtmaster Female Sale, including a complete herd dispersal of “Grangeside” Droughtmaster Stud, was conducted on Saturday 19th February at the Coolabunia Stud Selling Complex, Kingaroy. A total of 66 Bid Cards were issued with Buyers coming from Rockhampton, The Guns, Toowoomba, Clifton, Monto, Dayboro, Beaudesert, Bellmere, Calliope, Cooloola and local areas. In the General Section 13 Joined Females averaged $1,985 to a sale top of $4,100 for Roselands Paris on account of Glen and Margaret Hogan, “Payola” Droughtmasters, Coondoo and sold to astute breeders, Paul and Lisa Laycock of Eskdale. In the Cow-Calf Section 30 Cows and Calves averaged $2,132 to a top of $3,000 for Glenlands Livinia with a top bull calf by Glenlands Kiah, account of Stan and Debbie Corbett’s “Westcor” Stud and purchased by Glen Honor, Jacoben Stud, Yandina. 10 Unjoined Heifers averaged $1,700 with a top of $2,000 for Breffni Cabaret an RSVP Boris calf and purchased by junior breeder, Monique Pickering, Samford. Overall 53 Registered Females averaged $2,014. Peter and Marilyn Jones of “Grangeside” Droughtmasters had a very successful dispersal of their herd, topping at $5,000 for their sire Lagoona Bay Bryan, a Talgai Impact son purchased by Cliff and Nelda Mackay of “Canabat” Stud, Goomeri. There was solid demand for the females with the top cow and calf, Traveston Park Halloween, a Comanche Kickback female, fetching $2,900 and snapped up by Paul and Lisa Laycock of Eskdale. A total of 50 head was offered and sold by Grangeside averaging $2,048 to gross $102,400. Individually 31 cows and calves averaged $2,061 6 joined cows averaged $1,800 3 sires averaged $3,800 5 weaner heifers averaged $1,140 4 bulls averaged $2,225
Due to the recent floods there were much reduced numbers yarded in the Commercial Section, with two pens of quality replacement heifers, 12 -14 months fetching to a top of $1,000 to average $950. The price per kilo on these heifers would be in excess of $3.00 per kilo. They were offered by long term Droughtmaster breeders, the Birch Family of Eidsvold. Bulk buyers included Kimi Fabian, Palen Creek - 18 head, Michael Carr, Gympie - 17 head, Sally McLachlan, Bellmere - 14 head, Brett Whale, Coondoo – 10 head.
Overall 103 registered Droughtmasters averaged $2,033. 12 Commercials averaged $908 to achieve a 97% clearance on the day.
