4th ANNUAL SOUTH BURNETT “CREAM of the CROP”

REGISTERED DROUGHTMASTER FEMALE SALE  24.11.2007

Records tumble  $11,500 and $10,750  eclipsed previous top of  $ 8,500

 A superb line up of females was yarded at this year’s annual sale, culminating in a very similar result as last year’s average.  This was despite the ongoing dry, depressed cattle prices and the Australian dollar at record highs.  It is worthy of note that to date for 2007, there has been approximately 1,150 Droughtmaster females sold through the auction ring in SE Queensland, of which D & G LIVESTOCK have sold 854 head, not including private sales in the paddock.

 The sale was opened by Mrs Carli McConnel, the Vice President of the Droughtmaster Society, who commented that the vendors were to be congratulated in yarding so even a quality selection of Droughtmaster females.

 The Miles Family, Trafalgar, Mornish, topped the averages for the day with 13 eye-catching unjoined heifers to average $3,307.  Shane and Yolande Lambert of Pine Tree Downs averaged $2,975 for their 4 joined females, whilst Brian Hooper, Imbil Droughtmasters averaged $2,800 for 3 unjoined, topping at $4,000.

The Purnell Families, Calioran Stud, by far the largest vendor, averaged $2,763 for their 24 head topping at $10,750 for cows and calves and $6,000 for joined heifers. 

Buyers came to the sale from Townsville, west to Roma, south to Tamworth NSW and including areas in between.

Bulk buyers for the day were Phillips Family, Mary Valley with 7 averaging $3,486, Piper Family, Townsville with 11 averaging $3,127, Kevin Taylor, Oberina, Roma 7 head and AT3 Droughtmasters, Eumundi 13 head.
